Last week, I attended a supplier meeting with Big W which I must say was a rather interesting experience.
It is not easy to become a supplier for big supermarkets as there are layers and layers of red tape that one must go through before they receive the green light just to be able to trade with them.
My interest in Big W lies especially due to the fact that they have a very good selection when it comes to children’s toys and beauty selection and that is why I am very interested in partnering with them.
I have been in communication with them through various levels of their supply chain in recent weeks and although I am not formally endorsed as one of their suppliers yet, I am best described as a work in progress.
Many supermarkets work on some kind of submission deadline which happens every quarterly and if you miss that deadline, you’ve got to wait till the next one opens up before you can submit your products in for consideration again.
I think I might start bugging them again soon but they have told me to just wait patiently until I hear back from them.
Like I said earlier, I am very keen to get my brand into their stores, especially my plush toys.
I think it would do very well there since my plushies have a unique look and so I am really hoping that I will get a chance to at least get in soon and test the waters with them.
Now, let me tell you about my experience with attending an online supplier meeting.
It is like any other webinar that I have attended in the past for my media job except with this one it was jammed-packed with information on what suppliers such as myself would need to know, do and look out for if you want to become or remain as a supplier for Big W.
I am really looking forward to putting my products at their Town Hall store in Sydney CBD.
Hopefully, this happens to me soon.
Till my next update, be good.
